How We Ought to Think about God's Providence
"Beware of drawing an excuse for your sin from the providence of God; for it is most holy, and is in no way any cause of any sin you commit. Every sin is an act of rebellion against God; a breach of his holy law, and deserves his wrath and curse; and therefore cannot be authorised by an infinitely-holy God, who is of purer eyes than to behold iniquity without detestation and abhorrence. Though he has by a permissive decree allowed moral evil to be in the world, yet that has no influence on the sinner to commit it. For it is not the fulfilling of God's decree, which is an absolute secret to every mortal, but the gratification of their own lusts and perverse inclinations, that men intend and mind in the commission of sin." ~ Thomas Boston

Knowledge of God
Launching the recess of Bible Conference at Baptist Bible College, Rev. Christen proposed that individuals between the age of 15-25 especially need to appropriate certain Godly characteristics that they may avoid disastrous error. He spoke from Numbers 8 and emphasised the word Shakina saying that God's dwelling with his people was contingent upon their obedience. He then exclaimed the height of Christianity could rest upon the word Obedience. He used John 15 as he spoke about the necessity of the believer to abide in Christ and he said that that is assumed by faith. Then he reminded us that we are the temple of the holy Spirit.
Now, I think their is a substantial connection between these passages; however, I do not think that Man and his activities belong to that connection first. I think that Christ is. I am still trying to sort through the maze of his assertions and presumptions. But I think that we were not chosen to arduously use God to become like Him. That is illogical and absurd. God has acted in His Son and He has called us before the foundation of the world putting us into Christ by the Holy Spirit that we may be holy. Our activity in Holiness is enacted for us in Christ. I think we assume to much about our own capacity to effect consequences that are eternally virtuous.
I am still learning. Pray for me.
